Thinking of buying your teen an e-bike this Christmas? Here's everything you need to know...

Before you buy:

Riders must be aged 14 or over 

All bikes must meet EAPC legal standards 

Maximum speed is 15.5 mph 

The bike motor must be 250W or less 

Pedals must propel the bike 

After you buy:

Keep proof of purchase and model details 

Mark and register the e-bike 

Provide a helmet for the rider 

Understand where they can and can’t ride 

Remind the rider: no pavements, no pedestrian zones 

Stay safe and legal.
